Visual Stage with TouchDesigner For Beginners

The Visual Stage Workshop
The Visual Stage Workshop is targeted to musicians, VJ, show technicians and multimedia artists that wans to explore all the opportunities offered by technology to improve performances.
Generative graphics and image/video processing, in real time are very powerful instruments that can offer new ways to express and a new language to merge with traditional arts.
We will use the multimedia software called TouchDesigner (available both for Windows and iOS) that allows to work using a very user friendly interface, even without be programmers.
TouchDesigner is one of the most flexible software in the multimedia planet and it can work with screnns of any kind, projectors, lasers, servos, lights, MIDI controllers and instruments, movement sensors and so on.

Requested skills:
Basic computer knowledge, you don’t need to be a programmer
What we’ll do:
We’ll explore the basics of the software and the primary operations.
We’ll create an example of music reactive animated projection.
We’ll create an example of animated graphics driven by body movements.
We’ll drive a motorized stage LED light with hands movements.

Who we are:
AM Artist stems from the LabVega Coworking where Andrea Montis (musician and other) and Simone Murtas (programmer and other) met.
This project explores the multimedia arts world, merging music, video, informatics and theatre with the most recent interactive technologies and all the latest electronic devices.
The AM Artist’s activity includes music and video production, building of multimedia systems, videomapping and preparation of whole shows.
All AM Artist’s project are build from scratch and software are unique and selfmade because our goal is to achieve maximum flexibility in customization for all needs.

Example 1
Creation of a patch with generative graphic using real time sound reaction and analysis. A practical example for a video projection that can be used on a Djset or a gig .

  Creation of simple sound animated objects
  Video effects linked to sound
Example 2
Creation of a patch with generative graphics influenced by body movements detected by a Kinect.
  Generation of a particle cloud
  Detect and process Kinect data
  Animate the cloud with body movements
Example 3
Creation of a patch to use the DMX protocol. Animate colors and movements of a motorized LED light with hands movements.
  Send DMX commands
  Use of Kinect data to drive the light
