The TouchDesigner Intermediate Class is an eight-session course for people who have completed the Beginner Class or have equivalent experience — comfortable with TOPs, CHOPs, SOPs, instancing and feedback loops — and want to work with TouchDesigner at a professional level. It is led by Nima Gazestani with guest lecturers Vanta and Dan Molnar (Function Store), and runs as live three-hour sessions on Zoom, each recorded and available the day after, with project files and a dedicated Discord.
Where the Beginner Class teaches one technique per week, each Intermediate session builds a complete project that combines several. You build a musically structured audiovisual system — the spectrum split into twelve frequency bands driving a simulated set of LED pillars. You build a digital spray-paint tool and, with it, a professional project architecture that separates logic from rendering. Three sessions on computer vision take you from pixel-change triggers, to silhouette extraction driving 3D and feedback (an interactive wall that follows people), to MediaPipe hand tracking controlling a media carousel that loads its own content. You build a touchscreen memory game with Render Pick, Python game logic and proper state handling — a whole application in miniature. The final two sessions go deeper into the two languages that extend TouchDesigner: GLSL materials, vertex and fragment shaders and point-cloud manipulation with Vanta; custom tools, automation, extensions and external libraries in Python with Function Store.
Throughout, the emphasis is on optimisation, working with external devices and data, and preparing projects for live performance and installation. You finish with a certificate of completion and access to recordings and files for at least three years. Week 1 is available as a free sample lesson ( https://youtu.be/BpPL0dqKuSk?si=Fqqr2w1bFNPZH5z8 ).
