Practical Multimedia Journey (GEO / ENG) For Beginners

Workshop:

Day 1: Audio Reactivity and Foundations :

Introduction & TouchDesigner Basics

  • Welcome and introductions.

  • Overview of TouchDesigner's interface and node-based workflow.

  • Understanding TOPs, CHOPs, SOPs, and DATs.

  • Basic navigation and project setup.

Audio Reactivity with CHOPs

  • Introduction to audio input and analysis in TouchDesigner.

  • Working with the Audio Device In and Audio Analysis CHOPs.

  • Mapping audio frequencies to parameters (e.g., rotation, scale, color).

  • Hands-on exercise: Creating a simple audio-reactive visual using basic TOPs and CHOPs.

  • Skywalker pro tips and tricks, and introduction to the new Skywalker Audio Analysis plugin.

Break & Networking

  • Refreshments and informal discussion.

Advanced Audio Reactivity & Animation

  • Using LFOs and other CHOPs for dynamic animation.

  • Combining audio reactivity with animation COMP.

  • Building a more complex audio-reactive visual.

  • Q&A and troubleshooting. 

Skywalker visuals workflow breakdowns for different  types of audiovisuals

Also, there will be a presentation from Quray MIDI controller, of their innovative sensory midi device that can be used for audio and visual manipulation.

Homework: Choose a tutorial and compose generative content for later development 
 

Day 2: Interaction and UI Design

MediaPipe Integration

  • Introduction to the MediaPipe plugin for TouchDesigner.

  • Setting up and importing the plugin.

  • Understanding MediaPipe's output data (face tracking, hand tracking, body tracking, ).

  • Breakdown of the plugin's functionallity.

Interactive Project with MediaPipe

  • Mapping body movements to visual parameters.

  • Building a simple interactive project using MediaPipe (e.g., controlling shapes or effects with hand gestures).

  • Hands on practice.

Break & Networking

  • Refreshments and informal discussion.

Custom UI Design & Parameter Control

  • Introduction to building custom UIs in TouchDesigner.

  • Using Panels and Buttons for user interaction.

  • Customizing parameters for parent components.

  • Creating a control panel for a project.

  • Specifically, how to display only the needed parameters in the UI.

  • Final Q&A, sharing of resources, and closing remarks.
     

40 minute with Possible invited artists Progenol

 

Day 3: practical workout 

With each participant I will spend 30 minute to come up with idividual project development plan and work on problem solutions

 

Requirements: 

  • Laptop with touchdesigner software installed 

Note: This workshop is beginner-friendly, but it's highly recommended to have an understanding of a node-based programming language, such as TouchDesigner, and some basic experience with image or video editing software. By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to create simple generative visual effects using node based programming.Feel Free to contact Luke directly or organisers for further questions or assistance.
