How to make New Media Art the fun way?
New Media Week calls Berlin a global epicenter for digital art and while we agree, we’d like to add that Berlin is also a hot spot for education in visual programming for experience designers from around the world. So when we were asked, what we would like to contribute to this city wide celebration of digital creativity, the answer cam easy to us:
A bit more than six years ago, we started to host vvvv and TouchDesigner workshops and meetups at The NODE Institute in Neukölln and while we strongly believe in the benefits of online education, we often think back to those early days, when a dozen people came together to spend the day in the world of visual programming. Many careers and friendships have started here. To celebrate New Media Week, we look forward to gather once again a dozend curious minds in our studio and take them on a trip into the free thinking environment : TouchDesigner.

A friendly introduction to the creation of interactive real-time audiovisual media with the visual programming envionment TouchDesigner by Stefan Kraus.After a coffee fuelled introduction into the genesis and current applications of the visual programming environment TouchDesigner and its unique way to put modern computer graphics and much of the magic they have unleashed at your fingertips, Stefan will guide you through the creation of a simple, yet fun visual instrument, that will allow you to peform interactive 3D rendered visual in real-time, just like you would a musical instrument.In a fun and casual way, you will understand the possibilities and the challenges of real-time media and experiene the joy of expertimentation. If you like new media art, but you don’t know where to start – this is a great day to explore visual programming!

About the Instructor
Stefan Kraus, media artist and educator, is co-founder of The NODE Institute, the projection mapping festival, Genius Loci Weimar, and the media art studio, MXZEHN. Trained as an architect, Stefan explores the augmentation of physical structures using interactive and generative media and the narrative potential of abstract imagery. He holds a special interest in the art of live visual improvisation and creates augmented scenographies for theater, dance and music performances. After teaching Interaction Design at Bauhaus-University Weimar for over two decades, Stefan now enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with the creative coding community. His studio produces interactive installations, live media performances and augmented reality applications for commercial clients, festivals, institutions and exhibitions.
