Building a 16 Step Modulation Sequencer in TouchDesigner For Intermediate

Dates & Times:

Thursdays 14th / 21st / 28th October 2021 6pm UK / 7pm Berlin / 10am LA / 1pm NYC

2-hours in length

  • Session 1: Thursday 14th October
  • Session 2: Thursday 21st October
  • Session 3: Thursdays 28th October

Level: Beginner with Live / Intermediate with TD

TouchDesigner is a powerful tool for creating live performances, installations, real time visuals and complex digital systems. In this series of workshops you’ll learn how to construct a step sequencer asset in the TD environment and use the data it outputs to manipulate content internal to TD and externally via MIDI, OSC and Control Voltage (i.e to Cycling 74 Max, Ableton Live or Eurorack).

By the end of this series a successful student will be able to:

  • Build a step sequencer in the TD environment that provides various internal and external modulation sources
  • Setup and config internal, MIDI and CV input clock sources to drive the sequencer
  • Construct a clock divider to provide various subdivisions at tempo
  • Utilise the step sequencer to control video playback and synthesisers via MIDI, OSC and CV

Session 1 – Learning Outcomes

  • Identify various hardware and software synchronization protocols
  • Configure input clock for internal sources
  • Configure input clock for external sources
  • Construct a clock divider

Session 2 – Learning Outcomes

  • Construct a suitable UI within the TD environment
  • Build table DATS for replication
  • Configure and execute replicator components

Session 3 – Learning Outcomes

  • Design and execute a preset system in the TD environment
  • Handle TOX asset data management
  • Configure device output for internal destinations
  • Configure device output for external destinations

Session Study Topics

  • Internal and external input clocks
  • Clock division
  • UI and Presets
  • Internal and external output, MIDI, OSC and CV

Session 1 – Study Topics
