Role Summary

A Senior System Designer (SSD) takes the creative brief for an immersive experience and devises a technological solution to bring it to life. The design of this solution comprises the video, audio, lighting, interactive and control elements and their integration to form a cohesive, robust "system".

Job Description

 

Responsibilities - 

System Design Leadership: Leading the concept, planning, and design of sophisticated AV systems for immersive installations. Taking charge of designing complex solutions that align with project requirements and creative visions. 

Project Ownership: Assume full ownership of the project tech. Work autonomously, making critical decisions and managing projects efficiently.

Technical Mastery: Demonstrate an expert-level understanding of AV technologies, including projection mapping, LED displays, media servers (e.g., disguise, Resolume), interactive technologies, and their integration into seamless systems. 

Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including creative artists, project managers, and clients, to comprehensively understand project requirements and provide technical guidance and solutions.

Comprehensive Documentation: Maintain meticulous project documentation, including detailed schematics, technical specifications, and Theory of Operation manuals, to facilitate effective communication and future maintenance.

Prototyping and Innovation: Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept models to validate and innovate system designs, pushing the boundaries of technology to create unique immersive experiences.

 

Person Specification

Required attributes:

  • 5+ years experience of designing and delivering best-in-class AV
  • Proficiency in schematic design and creation of documentation
  • Strong understanding of integrating equipment using network-based protocols
  • Proficiency in working with various video, audio, lighting, and control signal types
  • Knowledge and experience in using media server packages and playback systems (e.g. Disguise, Pixera, Resolume, WATCHOUT, Brightsign)
  • Knowledge and experience in using show control systems (e.g. Medialon, Alcorn McBride, Node-red, Companion)
  • High level of computer literacy in Windows OS
  • High level of competency in MS Office productivity suite, especially Excel
  • Self-starter and autonomous worker
  • Adaptable and flexible in a challenging, demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative mindset and solid interpersonal skills 
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proactive approach to troubleshooting and issue prevention

 

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Friendly, good communicator able to talk about tech to different audiences

  • Experience in use of CAD software packages (2D and 3D)

  • Exposure to real-time interactive engines (Unreal, Notch, Unity)

  • Proficiency in network topology design, setup and deployment 

  • Knowledge of industry-standard equipment used in interactive immersive experiences

  • Knowledge of optics specifically lenses, cameras, projectors 

  • Hands-on attitude for building, testing, and enhancing designs.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel abroad for project assignments.

  • Availability to work in the office for at least three days a week.

  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate different time zones.
