What we're looking for

We are looking for a Creative Technology Discipline Leader who is passionate about new media art, interactive technology, and experiential design. You understand how to lead and grow a unique team with diverse technology skills. You love bits, electrons and photons, and you have a framework that allows you and your team to keep pushing the craft while delivering hardened solutions. You will be responsible for driving our multi-disciplinary creative technology team and continue to evolve our technology development and production process focusing on iterative prototyping in the medium.

The technology team is made up of multi-disciplinary developers, working across real-time interactive software, game engines, commercial AV, networking, IT, physical computing, kinetics, robotics, lasers, theatrical and architectural lighting, DSP, and more. You will be expected to context switch quickly and efficiently while helping provide clear direction and focus for your team. A morning might be spent soldering an LED matrix, while the afternoon might entail building a previz system in Unreal. Some days are spent creating generative art, experimenting with new sensor integration, or scoping the software architecture for an upcoming project.

We are looking for someone who is excited by the challenge of picking up new technology quickly and tackling interesting engineering problems. You will also be working side by side with our fabrication and design teams and collaborating on problems daily. Responsibilities

Project & Technical Leadership
- Define technical architecture and systems for interactive installations
- Lead software development and integration efforts across projects
- Oversee hardware and network system design for installations
- Supervise on-site deployment and troubleshooting
- Review and approve core project tech specs and deliverables
Team Management
- Manage and mentor a growing team of 3+ creative technologists plus interns and freelancers as needed
- Delegate tasks and manage technical timelines within the team
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members
- Lead hiring efforts for the creative technology team
- Contribute to performance reviews and feedback cycles
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with fabrication, content, and production teams on implementation details
- Translate creative direction into technical execution plans
- Collaborate with producers and project managers to align scope and resourcing
Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate AV and software development concepts directly to clients
- Participate in early project scoping and feasibility assessment
- Support documentation and training for client-facing tools and systems
R&D and Internal Tools
- Develop and maintain internal dev libraries and software templates
- Prototype and evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and integrations
- Lead integration of generative AI and machine learning systems
Infrastructure & Systems
- Specify and procure AV hardware, servers, sensors, and network infrastructure
- Design and maintain media server stacks and KVM systems
- Document system architecture, IP/networking, and control interfaces
IT Administration
- Design and maintain the studio’s network infrastructure
- Act as the primary IT contact for network, system, and device issues
- Manage the NAS system, including monitoring storage capacity and performing upgrades
- Ensure backup and disaster recovery plans are in place and tested
Support & Maintenance
- Remain engaged post-install for support, troubleshooting, and updates
- Oversee bug fixes and system improvements for permanent installations
- Ensure ongoing stability and uptime of deployed systems
Onboarding & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain onboarding documentation for internal tools and templates
- Support new team members during ramp-up on studio workflows
Studio Operations & Strategy
- Contribute to defining and implementing studio-wide technical strategies
- Help translate leadership’s strategic goals into actionable initiatives
- Participate in budgeting and resourcing decisions where applicable

Qualifications

A history of successfully executed interactive projects
5+ years of professional experience
A demonstrable drive to help individuals and a team achieve success
Experience in one or more of the following :
- Touchdesigner (Our main development platform at VVOX)
- Game Engine Programming (Unreal or Unity)
- Web Development (React, Vue.js, Ruby on Rails)
- Physical Computing: Arduino, Raspberry Pi
- LED Programming and Installation
- Strong Skills in Python or Javascript

Bonus Points

Experience with media servers such as Disguise or Pixera
Experience building systems with thousands+ of LEDs
Basic 3D Modelling (Blender, Maya, etc.)
Interactive audio systems with Ableton, MaxMSP, or PureData
