Myself and a partner at an advanced stage in applying for funding for an art installation. We're proposing to build a room with three 16 foot/4.87 metre by 24 foot/7.31 metre walls receiving projected footage. We're estimating that this will require six projectors to cover the total space.
We're using Orbbec Femto Bolt cameras to read gesture and body positions of attendees, which will number around 10 at a time. We're not 100% sure how many cameras we'll need, I would think four in total. The TouchDesigner project file will involve SOP instancing, although we'll make use of Particles GPU and pre-recorded footage with optical flow to try to keep things on the GPU where possible. Broadly speaking, we're looking to run a 8,640 x 1,920 image with interactivity such as optical flow and parameters being moved based on skeleton data from four different Azure Kinect CHOPs.
I don't know if a single computer will be able to handle this or whether we'll need multiple machines and/or a media server.
The task here is largely to recommend the specs for the machine/machines as well as ascertain whether we need more than one commercial TouchDesigner license, and to propose a rough setup that we can take to the festival as part of our proposal.
We're meeting them on Tuesday, it would be great to have a suggested setup for hardware/software by the weekend if possible.
If anyone has experience with large-scale installations and can recommend a list of hardware and software required here, that would be great, and that's the scope of the task.
Let me know!
All the best,
Conor
