Artist-in-Residence Opportunity — Immersive Media Lab

California College of the Arts (CCA), Interaction Design

The Interaction Design program at California College of the Arts is seeking a media artist with strong TouchDesigner experience to develop a site-specific media installation in our new Immersive Media Lab. Experience with projection mapping and using Ableton Live is preferred -  in order to fully leverage the lab’s current audiovisual setup.

The selected artist will be invited to work independently in the lab to produce an interactive media artwork. The theme, content, and narrative of the work are entirely open and driven by the artist’s own practice. There is also an opportunity to exhibit the completed work as part of

the CCA Graduation Exhibition, opening May 15, 2026, which typically attracts approximately 1,500 visitors.

The role also includes providing some technical support and instruction to students currently studying immersive experience design. This work involves creating some starter TouchDesigner networks for the students to experiment with, along with 3 - 4 lectures that cover just enough TouchDesigner to support customization of the networks (there is no need to teach TouchDesigner from scratch). CCA can also provide a stipend for providing lectures and instruction.

The Immersive Lab includes a new MacStudio M4 computer, 4 new projectors, a quad spatialized audio system, all of which are connected to a ceiling mounted grid.

The position is for (almost) immediate start.
