TouchDesigner InSession 18.0 with David Braun & Ge Wang

Join us this Friday February 4th for the 18th episode of InSession with our very special guests Masters student David Braun and Associate Professor and architect of the ChucK music programming language Ge Wang who will be joining us from Stanford's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics.

Derivative team hosts Markus Heckmann and Isabelle Rousset will be joined by Greg Hermanovic and Malcolm Bechard for a deep dive into two of the music software frameworks David has published for TouchDesigner: Faust (Faust (Audio Processing) for TouchDesigner) and ChucK (ChucKDesigner - Music Programming For Intermediate). As its chief designer Ge will introduce and demo ChucK and talk about ChucK in interactive audiovisual design which he practices and teaches at Stanford (ChucK in the Stanford Laptop Orchestra, ChucK in Unity/VR, etc.).

A software developer and artist working with real-time interactive media, audiovisual design, and machine learning David is legendary in our community for his many contributions.

Ge researches the artful design of tools, toys, games, musical instruments, virtual reality, and social experiences. He is the Co-founder of Smule and the designer of the Ocarina and Magic Piano apps for mobile phones. A 2016 Guggenheim Fellow, Ge is the author of /Artful Design: Technology in Search of the Sublime/, a photo comic book about how we shape technology -- and how technology shapes us.

It's going to be a blockbuster episode as we go through lots of interesting ideas and solutions and design on all fronts and it will be great to have you there online with us for some good  interaction and live feedback. See you Friday!

The event will be live-streamed and we encourage the community at large to tune in and ask their own questions in the chat.

  • To apply, please fill out and submit this registration form. Before submitting please read carefully:

  • Incomplete registrations will not be considered. (“More info to come…” is not good enough.)

  • The session will be streamed online to the whole community. Make sure there is nothing secret in your project that you don’t want to reveal or you are not allowed to share.

  • We will use the latest Official and Experimental builds. Let us know what your project was created with.

  • Make sure your linked project or .tox file runs out of the box. For example be sure that any paths are relative to your project file.

  • If at all possible, break out issues with your project into smaller examples.

  • We encourage you to use TouchDesigner’s sample assets where possible. Please be considerate of download sizes. A GB per project is too big.
