It was estimated that roughly 185,000 revelers attended EDC this year, making it the largest dance music event in North America.
Centered in the middle of the mayhem (which they were partly responsible for by the looks of the over-the-top visual display) were Vello Virkhaus, Bryant Place and the V Squared production team. (Hmmm.. weren't those guys responsible for some other disturbance at Coachella earlier this summer? See V SQUARED LABS uses TOUCHDESIGNER to create the HEINEKEN INSPIRE DOME Visuals Experience).
VJ v2 & Armin Live @ EDC
We asked Vello, CEO and Director of V Squared Labs how these Visuals were achieved and he said:
"We used TouchDesigner to capture 2 HD video feeds and route it into our pixel map. The stage itself had more LED video tiles than we have ever used before. To implement this we modified our Dome 2 TouchDesigner build, stripped it apart and rebuilt a new synth called Epic.
Epic allowed us to combine HD live mixed VJ visuals, with generative audio reactive graphics. This was a combination of 2 different VJ styles. Touch allowed us to musically animate the pixel mapped/routed video in ways we never imagined possible before."
Clearly! And here's a short peak at how this was put together in TouchDesigner:

Spectacular work guys! Thanks Vello!
