We are very pleased to announce that TouchDesigner will have stellar community representation at SXSW this year. In brief: 2 projects - Moment Factory's LAX Terminal and Mod Production's ACO VIRTUAL are short-listed for interactive awards; "Wrapping the World with Light" a panel with Jarrett Smith, Derivative co-founder, artist Sougwen Chun and Leviathan's Chad Hutson will discuss the technology and practice of projection mapping; workshop Live Visuals: Intro to Projection Mapping with Todd Moyer and Mat Hale offers a practical on mapping; and Lustix' kinetic projection-mapped sculpture Fractoid 2.2 will be exhibited in the SXSW Eco Light Garden. If you're attending the festival be sure to say hello!
Saturday, March 8, 11:00AM - 12:00PM
We are very pleased to have such fantastic representation on this panel - namely Jarrett Smith, Derivative co-founder, Chad Hutson, Leviathan executive producer and artist Sougwen Chun.
"Digital design is becoming more fluid and less tethered to the desktop or smart phone. Visual communicators and artists are seeking bigger and bolder ways to crossbreed the real world and the boundless universe of the imagination. Projection mapping is a powerful tool for blending the digital realm and real environments and places we physically inhabit around us. Using specialized mapping software, designers and artists around the world are finding clever and startling ways to map projected images on to three dimensional architectural and sculptured spaces and objects; bringing to life a shared space where the real and unreal are merged. This panel will give attendees a basic understanding of the technology behind projection mapping, view some of the dynamic work being produced by fine artists, VJs and graphic designers, and look at how to conceive of the content and storytelling that can best be expressed through this fantastic medium."
Presenters: Chad Hutson, Leviathan | Jarrett Smith, Derivative | Sougwen Chun, artist | Tony Romain, Trance.

Join us for innovative and inspiring sculptures of light at the SXSW Eco Light Garden. The park has been curated with art from around the world, and this event is free and open to the public.
Pieces include (among others):
Fractoid 2.2 - Lustix and1028 Designs, Clever Maven Experiential
Fractoid 2.2 is a kinetic, projection-mapped sculpture. It is synced to a futuristic beat-machine and operates based off of audience interaction. Participants are invited to enter various combinations of keystrokes into a controller that will cause the sculpture to rotate into different shapes. Fractoid 2.2 challenges us to think about the relationship between space and information.
