IDEAS VIVAS — an interactive audiovisual installation built with TouchDesigner
The piece begins with a poetic premise: imagining ideas as living entities — small organisms that exist around us, moving, gathering, dissolving and transforming even before they are observed.
The work is built as a three-layer ecosystem. The first layer is the world they inhabit: a constant flow in motion, an invisible environment that sustains the piece. Within that space, doubts appear as particles moving through a system of flow fields, drifting like undefined currents of thought. Finally, the ideas emerge as visual organisms driven by flocking behavior, capable of grouping, separating and responding collectively to the presence of the audience.
When the audience touches the projected surface, they do not activate a static object; they enter a system that was already alive. Their gesture attracts, alters and temporarily reorganizes the behavior of the ideas, making visible a relationship between attention, movement, intuition and discovery.
The sonic dimension is also part of the ecosystem. Each flock has its own musical identity: a sound layer associated with its color, movement and behavior. As the audience interacts with different groups, these layers are triggered, combined and transformed, generating a procedural composition in real time. The final song is not completely written in advance; it emerges from the relationship between the system and the actions of the public.
The installation was presented during the anniversary of the Museo Morelense de Arte Contemporáneo Juan Soriano (MMAC) in Mexico. The project was developed with TouchDesigner as the main creative environment, integrating generative simulation, flocking, flow fields, 2D LiDAR interaction and sound design in Ableton Live.
More than a technical demonstration, IDEAS VIVAS seeks to create a sensitive universe: a space where ideas, doubts and the world that contains them appear as living matter, and where technology becomes a way to touch what usually remains invisible.
