This is the start of my Utopia Pinball TouchDesigner blog. I'm hoping this will help document my scope and progress.
This is a pinball lounge that will have two video walls. Each wall has duplicate video feeds. Each video wall consists of 4 43" UHD 60 hz LCD screens in portrait mode. I am using commercial screens designed to run 24/7. There is also a 77" oled above the fireplace. This is also going to be part of select shows, but can also run media on its own. All video switching I'd like to control in touch via an ipad.
Some of the content I'd like to show on the video wall is direct/live video feed from select games in the pinball room. There are 8 cameras aiming directly at the playfield. This way the people in the lounge can watch the gameplay without crowding the player at the machine itself. I'm using 1080P 60fps sdi cameras for this. And bringing in the footage using an 8 sdi HD input card for the PC. Another media type would me leaderboards for top scores on the games. Also tourneyment play/standings. I'd also llike custom shows like different attract modes, and welcome modes for corporate or personal events.
Currently I'm building and proofing this out from a laptop. The current hardware in stock is a 13th gen i9 laptop with 64GB ram and a 4090 GPU, one of these cameras, one of these monitors, a usb sdi 3g 60fps capture card, and TouchDesigner Commercial.
I'll stress, I am not an expert with TouchDesigner. My experience with it has mainly been using a holodeck type room to proof out circlevision type movies. This was controlled via an ipod, and I really enjoyed it. I helped design this, but we had some great help with Jarret at Derivative as we had a pro license at my work. This is a personal (kinda, I own this building) project as I'm on my own now. So designing this on my own is fun and scary at the same time.
Any time you think you might have an idea on how to help, or be more efficient, let me know.
Future blogs will have PC specs I'm building for this project, as well as daily or weekly updates on my progress. Picts included showing the building outside, the building layout inside, and the lounge with a video wall and the larger olde screen.
