td-atlas — an MCP connector that lets an AI agent build, inspect and debug TouchDesigner projects

Hi all,

I've been building td-atlas, a free, open-source (MIT) connector between TouchDesigner and AI agents that speak MCP (Claude Code and others).

What it gives the agent:

  • The exact operator and parameter names from your installation — an index  built locally from your own TouchDesigner, so it stops guessing parameter  names.
  • A live bridge into the running project: edits land as one undoable block  (one Ctrl+Z puts it all back), it renders TOPs to see what it made, and  td_health looks for the failures TouchDesigner stays quiet about — branches  that never cook, feedback loops a forced cook doesn't advance, Level TOPs  going negative in float, cook times from long-past frames.
  • Timeline jobs that walk frames one by one inside TouchDesigner, for  anything with history (live audio, feedback, trails), with 2×2 tiles past  the Non-Commercial 1280 cap.
  • An offline reader: search, diff and snapshot .toe/.tox files without  opening them.

Two short videos:

Install on macOS: curl -fsSL https://grigabyte.github.io/td-atlas/i | sh
Docs: https://grigabyte.github.io/td-atlas/
Code: https://github.com/grigabyte/td-atlas

Measured on TouchDesigner 2025.32460 on macOS. Windows code paths run in CI, but I haven't run it against TouchDesigner on Windows yet — reports welcome.
It never saves your project; edits are real edits in the open file, and undo brings them back.

Bug reports and ideas: GitHub issues are the best place, I read them there.
