The asset everyone needs in their toolkit
- Helps you choose the correct brightness, lense and positioning for your projector
- Previs shadows on structures or immersive floors
- Simulate depth camera
Installation
Download the Projector_Coverage.tox file
Drag and drop the TOX into your TouchDesigner network
That's it! The component is ready to use with all extensions and parameters pre-configured
Quick Start
Basic Setup (30 seconds)
Position the component in 3D space where your projector will be
Use tx, ty, tz parameters to move it
Component should point down -Z axis (towards negative Z)
Enter your projector specs:
Lensethrow: Throw ratio from projector manual (e.g., 1.5)
Lumens: ANSI lumens (e.g., 6000)
Lensedistance: Distance to screen in meters (e.g., 10)

Parameters
Projector Specifications
Lens Throw Ratio (Lensethrow): From projector specs
Short throw: 0.4 - 0.8
Standard: 1.0 - 2.0
Long throw: 2.0+
Lumens (Lumens): ANSI lumens (e.g., 6000)
F-Number (Fnumber): Lens aperture (default: 2.0)
Affects light transmission and brightness
Lower = brighter (f/1.8 > f/2.8)
Native Offset % (Nativeoffset): Built-in vertical offset
0% = lens centered on image
110% = image entirely above lens (common ceiling mount)
Check your projector manual for "image offset" or "lens offset"
Aspect Width (Aspectw): Default 16
Aspect Height (Aspecth): Default 9
Common ratios: 16:9, 16:10, 4:3, 21:9
Throw Distance & Coverage
Throw Distance (Lensedistance): Distance to screen in meters
Screen Width (Screendimensions1): Auto-calculated
Screen Height (Screendimensions2): Auto-calculated
Projection Center (Projectioncenter): XYZ focal point (read-only)
Lens Shift
Only if your projector supports lens shift
Vertical Lens Shift % (Verticalshift): -100 to +100
Positive = image shifts UP (projector below center)
Negative = image shifts DOWN (projector above center)
Horizontal Lens Shift % (Horizontalshift): -100 to +100
Positive = image shifts RIGHT (projector left of center)
Negative = image shifts LEFT (projector right of center)
Field of View (Auto-calculated)
Horizontal FOV (Camerafov): Auto-calculated from throw ratio
Vertical FOV (Cameravfov): Auto-calculated from throw ratio
Diagonal FOV (Cameradiagonalfov): Auto-calculated
Brightness (Auto-calculated)
Nits (Nits): Display brightness in cd/m²
Target: 50-100 for indoor, 200+ for bright environments
Foot-Lamberts (Candelas): Cinema standard measurement
Display Options
Display Frustum (Displayfrustum): Toggle 3D frustum visualization
Display Measurements (Measurement): Toggle measurement guides
Output Resolution (Res): 720p / 1080p / 4K
Camera Sync (Optional)
Sync Camera (Camera): Point to a Camera COMP
Automatically syncs position, rotation, FOV, and lens shift
Perfect for rendering projection content
