HTC Vive Controller (I said Tracker sorry) not detected

Hello all,

Just a quick post to relay my experience:
I flashed a Steam Controller USB bluetooth Dongle to add a 3rd Vive controller to my Vive setup.
I can start Steam VR and my base station is shown with the unique controller:

  • only the dongle and the controller are shown green and clear
  • no Vive headset is near the PC
  • non-commercial version (my pro dongle is 30mn away)
  • VR error “Steam failed init… (108)”
So I gather I am going to get my controller inputs, but TD’s OpenVR operator doesn’t see it :frowning:
    See attached pic.
I messed around with steamvr.vrsettings to start without HMD so hey, am i getting what I deserve?
    Not sure, cheers, P

Hi all,

Soo yes, got it working, it was my bad
I am sure most of you have got it covered but I thought I would follow up on success:

  • Vive controller paired to flashed Steam Controller BTooth dongle
Attached files to do that: dongle updater + firmware
  • Null Driver setting running on Steam VR (see green hexagon in green icons)
  • TD getting all inputs from the controller at decent FPS
  • 1 base station + 1 controller lean functional setup to carry around
  • use SteamVR beta
  • hopefully this works in the future…
Refs: settings to copy in your steamvr.vrsetting file:
    steamcommunity.com/app/358720/d … 321/?ctp=3
    – here is a known valid steamvr.vrsetting ([your_steam_directory\config]) which on my system is “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config”

This explicitly enables the null driver (rather than relying on the default null driver vrsetting file) and sets SteamVr to activateMultipleDrivers.

Hi all,

My own thread here
I have the Vive Controller without HMD working on SteamVR on my Macbook pro too! (OsX) pretty smooth.
But TD pro for MacOsX isn’t seeing it :frowning:, any clues?
It’s working with Unreal 4 20.x on OsX, so my setup has something right.
Wondering if there’s something obvious I missed, tc! P

Hi Priam,
We haven’t added support for SteamVR on macOS yet, I think this is a recent development.

We’ll look into extending support for it. Out of curiosity, what version of macOS are you using?

YES PLEASE!!!

I’m on MacOS Mojave 10.14 and would love any help getting my TD.toes into an HMD.

OculusGO, Vive any et al !!

If there are any good tutorials on a solution I would be most grateful!

Curtis

Hi Ben,

As I wrote that post I realized, wait SteamVR isn’t that old on OsX, and not working for everyone it seems. Mine refused to have the heaset running so I gave that up.
No HMD is the way for me to keep experimenting on the go for now.
My specs: Macbook Pro retina i7 2012, 16go ram, GTX 650m
My OS: High Sierra 10.13.6
I am aware i am on the verge of obsolescence, will have to get a new laptop sometime.
Cheers! P
PS: although I do have a pretty nifty PC running my VR works
