DMX OUt Chop - sACN. -99

Hi,

I’m curious to how the sACN universes are numbered… Its got Net Subnet, Universe… but those are artnet numbering schemea… Theres 63999 universes in sacn…

How does that work.

That’s a good question - I’m not totally sure how that number for sACN is calculated.
sACN reserves the first universe, so the starting universe is 1.
With 16 subnets and 256 nets, I only get to 61,440 universes…

Anyhow - specifying for sACN follows the same universe, subnet, and net standard as ArtNet.
I’ll make sure that you can specify Nets > than 127.
When using multicast this shouldn’t be an issue at all as the multicast address is constructed from the fields in the Routing Table.

sACN ( from the e1.31 ) standard does not have any concept of subnet/net like Artnet. They are only ever know as a 16 bit number.

Also, if you are sending multiple universes out is there a way to also send the sACN sync packet?

Hey,

yup - that’s a good point, will likely change the addressing scheme in the future to be consistent with the sACN spec. For now you would have to follow the ArtNet addressing using the net and subnet to get access to higher universes than 16.

Regarding the sync package, this is not yet implemented.
