Mapping mouse movements to camera rotation during playback?

For a desktop based application, is it possible to somehow map mouse coordinates to 3d camera rotation?

hi! resurrecting this old thread, i’m trying to follow this chapter too sweb.cityu.edu.hk/sm4125/SM4125-03.pdf , and i have a question, how can i rotate and and translate in both directiosn, because now i can manipulate only in one direction (forward), how can i go backwards using this method.

You might consider looking at the acrball geometry COMP in the palette or the arcball camera. Both of these are my preferred interaction points for this kind of work these days.
