Help me figure out Perform mode

I’ve only just started learning TD with a few tutorials (from Lynda, Matt Ragan, a few others), so still very much a novice (although I have experience of other systems such as PD/Gem and Max/Jitter.)

I’m a little confused right now as to the principles behind what is displayed as the “main output”, e.g. what would be seen by the audience. In several of the examples, invoking Perform mode shows a black screen, in some others the content appears.

Here’s what I think I understand: to display, we have to have a sequence of frames to show, so if we have, say, a geometry, it’s not “drawn” anywhere other than the viewer. But what I don’t understand is that if I have a geo, a light and a camera, the camera isn’t the camera actually creating the sequence of frames to be displayed?

Any pointers to a good explanation of this would be really welcome.

Many thanks!

I would keep looking at Matthew Ragan’s tutorials:
matthewragan.com/2014/06/24/ren … hdesigner/ this article explains how to bring your geo to a 2D output.

These three videos are also answering your questions:

Good luck!

Thanks! I’ll check those out.
